The REV’IT! Dominator GTX gloves are our shop’s go-to winter riding glove. In fact, the four of us that are riding down to The One Show in Portland this weekend are all wearing this glove. With the perfect mixture of warmth and dexterity, paired with the guaranteed waterproofness of the Goretex Gore grip technology inside. It was a no brainer with the chilly and potentially wet weekend ahead. The Dominator GTX glove retained all of our favorite features of the warm weather variant Cayenne Pro gloves such as the dual comp knuckle and upper hand protectors, TPU hard-shell palm and thumb protectors, and PU injected finger knuckles these gloves have MotoGP level protection. The Dominator GTX gloves have the addition of a lens wiper on the left-hand forefinger. The palm of the glove is also built with Pittards WR100X Hairsheep Diamond patterned leather to aid with grip in wet conditions.
Riding in these gloves, you really notice the ease of movement in your fingers for such a robust build of a glove. Especially after you get caught in a rainstorm or two and the leather has broken itself in. They are flexible enough to not cause issues during even the most technical riding. One of our staffers was using the Dominator GTX gloves during a recent rip around the technical single track trails north of Seattle on their 250cc two-stroke dirtbike. The breathability of the Goretex Gore grip lining kept their hands at the just right temperature and dry during many valiant attempts to climb iced over hills and slushy water crossings. While commuting with the gloves, the built-in lens wiper on the left-hand forefinger was rather helpful for clearing the visor of misty rain from the surrounding vehicles on I-5. REV’IT! took the visibility a step further and added a strip of retroreflective material on the outer area of the pinky. The gloves themselves are cut slightly larger than their summer brethren, the Cayenne Pro. This leaves you the room to add in the REV’IT! Helium underglove for some added warmth if need be. On days where your Triumph’s dash is showing a little snowflake, those extra few degrees of warmth easily add a few hours of seat time.
Our one qualm with the REV’IT! Dominator GTX glove is the absence of having a touch screen compatible area on the fingertip. It is quite possibly the smallest of nit-picks, but at $280 for a pair of gloves, it would be a lovely added benefit. Overall, the Dominator GTX glove from Rev’It! is well worth the price if you’re looking for a nimble and protective wet weather glove that will last you for years to come.
